Behavior of CFA and H-section steel piles in lateral loading: experimental and numerical analysis

abstract: The behavior of continuous flight auger (CFA) piles and steel H-section to lateral loading is investigated using numerical analyses supported by field tests. A three-dimensional finite element model load presented. was validated with the results twelve tests performed on CFA installed in two deposits sandy soils. approach proposed this study good agreement response observed tests, thus represents a reliable soil-pile interaction for laterally loaded soil. Parametric were used assess influence relevant variables interaction. Major findings paper indicate that ultimate short rigid considerably more influenced changes relative stiffness than long flexible units. Pile diameter interface friction are found exert marked effect piles, while soil dilatancy play minor piles.
